SUNCATCHER WORKSHOP – PUBLIC
This is a hands-on class for both beginners and intermediates in which you will learn the basics of copper foil technique and go home with your own stained glass suncatcher you made yourself! The workshop will include basic instruction on how to design and structure your piece, create a pattern and template, cut glass, use a diamond grinder, apply copper foil, assemble and solder the pieces together and add a hook to properly hang your completed piece. For those of you who have already attended my suncatcher class before, you can build upon that by learning how to cut more challenging lines and shapes, create more complex pieces, and incorporate metal hoops and copper foil and wire overlay details if desired. Each student will select a design of their choosing from existing templates based on their skill level. Should you choose to come back, you can build upon your skills each time and make more complex suncatchers.
This workshop costs $150 per person and takes place in my stained glass studio just outside of Rosendale, NY and will last approximately 5 hours from start to finish (that’s $30/hour including the cost of glass!), depending on each student’s design and pacing. Price of the class includes all tools and materials, and proper safety protection.
Public suncatcher workshops are usually offered about once a month with the new dates announced about a month for so in advance, first to all who sign up for our newsletter, then this website, then to social media within the following week. This monthly occurrence is not guaranteed, as there may be short to long pauses of public suncatcher workshops based on the studio’s workload and space availability. If you do not see a date posted on the Workshops page, it means there is no current suncatcher workshop available. It is highly recommended that you sign up for the workshop of your liking ASAP when it is available, as these sell out quickly at a maximum of 8 students per class.
SUNCATCHER WORKSHOP – PRIVATE
Willow Deep Studio does offer private classes scheduled based on both the studio’s availability and your schedule at a higher price to have to clear studio space and the date. This is exactly the same class as the public workshop above, but exclusive only for you and guests of your choosing.
Current pricing for a private workshop is as follows:
$350 for one individual student
$475 for two students
$600 for three students
$700 for four students
$825 for 5 students
$900 for 6 students,
$1100 for 7 students
$1300 for 8 students
Visitors from out of town (or anyone who wants to select their own private workshop date online) can also book a stained glass suncatchers workshop as an Airbnb Experience HERE. The cost is larger here due to the significant fees Airbnb collects, but the benefit is you get to pick any date that is convenient for you.
Requests for suncatcher workshops to be held at other locations are very much appreciated, however, due to logistical issues including hazardous materials, machine and space requirements and general safety, it is not possible at this time.
