Willow Deep Studio provides traditional glass painting services for both historic restoration as well as original artwork commissions. Evidence of painting pigments on glass dates back to around 2000 BC with origins in Mesopotamia, Egypt, and the Roman Empire and surged in popularity and artistic skill during the Middle Ages, then the Renaissance, and again in the Industrial Revolution of the 18th and 19th centuries. Painting on glass continues to be a specialized art form to depict more realist designs or realistic illustrations than the limitations of glass and lead alone.
Brenna Chase is professionally trained in the advanced techniques of glass painting. The process entails tracing, shadowing and etching layers of leaded or non-leaded paint, enamel and/or silver stain that are each hand-mixed, then firing each layer in a kiln before adding the next. Willow Deep Studio is dedicated to restoring pre-existing, damaged glass paintings as well as applying traditional and inventive glass painting skills to contemporary, original glass art.
