Willow Deep Studio creates custom mirrors out of gold leaf using the traditional verre eglomise method that involves gelatin, which makes the surface reflective. Owner/artisan Brenna is a member of the Society of Gilders and has trained and apprenticed professionally in many traditional techniques of gold leaf. The process of making gold leaf mirrors dates back all the way to the first century AD and can create beautiful textures that add a classic touch to any home. Gilded mirrors can also be hand-etched or distressed to look as if they are antique, and this can entail many different effects depending on the style desired. For more contemporary pieces, pieces can be crafted using repurposed antique or new acrylic mirror cut into various shapes with stained glass incorporated into the design or border.
